About FI Beacon
A focused tool built to help you track, measure, and reach Financial Independence — one monthly snapshot at a time.
Our Mission
FI Beacon exists for one reason: to give people a clear, distraction-free way to track their progress toward Financial Independence. No budgeting complexity, no bank integrations, no data you wouldn't be comfortable storing — just the metrics that matter on the road to FI.
We believe that financial independence is achievable when you can see where you stand, how far you've come, and how long the journey ahead might take. FI Beacon turns those questions into a simple dashboard you check once a month.
Why FI Beacon Was Built
The idea started with a straightforward observation: most finance tools are built around budgeting and spending — not around the long-term goal of reaching financial freedom. Spreadsheets work, but they're scattered, hard to maintain, and offer no guidance when you're just getting started.
FI Beacon was created to fill that gap. It's a purpose-built web application that combines an FI profile, monthly savings snapshots, personal goals, reminders, and a dashboard with charts and key metrics — everything a person pursuing FI actually needs, nothing they don't.
The application is designed to be fully GDPR-safe. It stores only self-reported, non-sensitive data — total monthly savings, general expense categories, and financial goals. No bank accounts, no salaries, no transactions. Users can export or delete their data at any time.
Built as an MVP — Iterated in the Open
FI Beacon follows an MVP-first philosophy. The initial version was designed and developed in a focused sprint, concentrating on the core loop: set a target, log monthly savings, and visualise progress over time.
Rather than waiting for a "perfect" product, we shipped early and improved based on real usage. Every feature you see today — goals, reminders, subscription tiers, data export — was added iteratively, one step at a time.
This approach keeps development honest and user-driven. If something isn't useful, it doesn't ship. If something is missing, it goes on the roadmap.
Transparency & Iteration
FI Beacon is a living product. The architecture — .NET microservices on the backend, Angular on the frontend — is designed for steady, incremental improvement. New capabilities are added as they prove valuable, and existing features are refined based on feedback.
We're transparent about the fact that this is a growing application. The technology choices, the feature set, and the pricing model are all subject to thoughtful evolution. What won't change is the core commitment: help users see their path to Financial Independence clearly and consistently.
About the Developer
FI Beacon is built by Tudor, a software developer with over 15 years of professional experience. Since graduating in 2008, Tudor has worked across startups and international companies, holding roles that span hands-on development, team management, and product leadership.
After years of building software for others, Tudor decided to give back to the development community. That effort started with Relaxed Coder, a blog covering programming, software development, and practical career guidance for developers at every level.
FI Beacon is an extension of that same philosophy — build practical tools, share knowledge openly, and help people make measurable progress toward their goals. The project uses modern AI-assisted development workflows to move fast while maintaining quality, and it serves as a real-world reference for the kind of full-stack applications Tudor writes about on the blog.
